Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell to Have Back Surgery

Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell to Undergo Back Surgery

Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell is apparently having back surgery during his band's recent break from its Rainier Fog tour.

It was actually Susan Holmes McKagan (Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan's wife) who revealed the news via Instagram.

Cantrell apparently dropped by the McKagan's Seattle-area home for Christmas dinner. In a post, wishing her followers Merry Christmas, Susan also wished Cantrell the best with his back procedure.

Cantrell himself has not mentioned the procedure publicly himself, so we'll keep hoping it's minor and the guitarist will be good as new by the time his tour resumes in March.

Alice In Chains has been touring since last summer. The band released its acclaimed new album Rainer Fog in August

Despite making a name for himself in Los Angeles with Guns N' Roses, McKagan has always remained close to the music scene in his hometown of Seattle and to the grunge artists who helped solidify its status as a cultural hub in the '90s.

"To watch Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney and Mike Inez gather themselves along with the brilliant William Duvall, was to me like watching Rocky in 1976 as a 12-year-old," McKagan wrote in a bio to promote the new Alice In Chains album over the summer.
